Currently we are all dealing with the same Pandemic across the entire world. We all have endured some hardship, loss, and uncertainty for the future. However, we are not all in the same boat! Right now, there are many families that are struggling to provide the most basic of all needs for their children. Access to food is a major issue in other parts of the world, and this pandemic has only exacerbated the situation.
The moment that I heard that there are families in Guatemala, a place I have come to love, hanging white flags outside of their homes in hopes someone will bring them food, I knew I had to do something. My good friend and all-around amazing human Heather Knox and her husband Greg run Project Somos near Tecpan, Guatemala. Their main focus to educate, nurture, and keep children safe during the day has recently changed to doing what they can to feed their families and those families in the villages surrounding them. I had the pleasure of spending time at the Project last summer and the work they do is life-changing to these families.
- Imagine not having food for your child, and nowhere to turn to get it.
- Imagine not being able to go work to earn money to buy food and getting no assistance from the government.
- Imagine having food to cook, but no water to cook it because you only have access to clean water for two hours every other day.
- Imagine your child not being able to go to school, and instead of distance learning they are isolated at home with little to do.
Heather, Greg, and the rest of Project Somos are the boots on the ground that will help many children and their families survive this Pandemic. We need to be the behind-the-scenes support by financially contributing whatever amount we are capable of donating to the cause. There is no amount too small for these children!
My goal is simple; I would like to fund at least two “Food Bank Days” so Heather and Greg can provide food to families in desperate need of assistance. Heather estimates the cost of each day at around $1000 US dollars.
