Cassandra's 2024 Give OUT Day Page: The Last Dance

Think back to what you were doing about 20 years ago. Were you:

• sporting a Juicy Couture tracksuit? 
• getting dizzy to the sounds of The Backyardigans or Dora the Explorer while your kids sang along?
• still wondering how in the h*ll George W. Bush got elected for a second time?
• watching Tom Cruse jump up and down on Oprah's couch on "The Oprah Winfrey Show?"
• jamming on the dance floor to Rihanna's, "Pon De Replay? "

Well, about 20 years ago QWOCMAP was getting ready to host its first Queer Women of Color Film Festival! And over these 20 years, there has been no film festival like it in the world.

Literally.

One thing you may not be aware of is this is the last and final year that the Horizons Foundation will be hosting this fundraising opportunity. So, it's QWOCMAP's Last Dance in the world of Give OUT Day.

QWOCMAP impact has "inside-out" impact. What I mean by this is QWOCMAP changes how people think and feel about themselves and, in turn, their relationship to the world around them.  These people are more inspired to become changemakers in their communities and beyond. How does QWOCMAP do this?

• it leads the way in creating, exhibiting, and distributing films by BIPOC LBTQA women, nonbinary folks, and transmen, spotlighting themes and experiences mainstream media often forgets
• it lends its wisdom and expertise to how systems can function to be more inclusive and notice the voices that need to be amplified
• it holds principles rooted in disability justice (like interdependence, collective liberation, leadership of the most impacted, intersectionality) that allow all to be seen and guide how we move forward as a community

We need QWOCMAP to continue its transformative work. So how can you help QWOCMAP reach its goal of raising $40,000 by May 30?

--Donate $20 or more to QWOCMAP, May 1 - May 30 in celebration of the 20th annual International Queer Women of Color Film Festival.  This will count towards my personal goal for Give OUT Day. In addition, it will support QWOCMAP in earning additional funds if we are one of the top three organizations to have the most INDIVIDUAL people to donate.
