Hi and welcome to my Mightycause page!

My name is Zoe Greenspan and this year I am participating in the Jewish Teen Foundation (JTF), a teen philanthropy program in which teens come to consensus on a mission statement, fundraise for the cause, and research/vet nonprofit organizations in order to make difficult grantmaking decisions.  I decided to join JTF this year because during this crazy year I witnessed how many people are suffering and want to try to help as much as I can alongside similar minded individuals. JTF allows me to witness the power teens have to make change, and directly affect people's lives for the better.

This year has brought many challenges to people because of COVID-19, which has led many issues to get worse during this time. With this in mind our board decided to focus our efforts on those affected on Domestic violence and its prevention.

Our board's mission statement:

The Jewish Teen Foundation is committed to supporting people affected by domestic violence through organizations/initiatives that provide direct services and preventative measures to ensure physical and mental safety for all.

What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic Violence is defined by the Oxford Reference, as being "any incident of violence, threatening behavior, or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial, or emotional) between adults who are or have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality.” Domestic violence is a large issue across the world that has only gotten worse during the pandemic. Below are some statistics from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence to better understand how immense Domestic violence is.

• 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience Domestic Violence; such as severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking sometime in their lifetime

•On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men

•Violence between partners accounts for 15% of all violent crime

Any donation will help aid organizations that work to help those affected by Domestic violence and work to prevent it. I ask you to donate, so together, we can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives in our community. Any amount is extremely cherished, and we are very grateful for your contributions to these wonderful organizations.

The deadline for donations is April 15th, 2021. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about JTF or Domestic violence, you can email me at zoe.greenspan@gmail.com
