The Black Student Fund was founded in 1964 to further education equity in the DC metro area.  We are known for our work in helping families access Independent Schools. BSF has developed a STEM effort that we have expanded during the Covid-19 pandemic.   We call this Math an’ Coding (MANC).   MANC introduces underserved boys and girls to object-oriented programming by teaching them Python, which is one of the five most popular programming languages on the market.  We also provide pre-algebra and algebra enrichment during the summer; this will help reduce summer learning loss.  Additionally, during the Covid-19 pandemic we have converted into a virtual program. We will extend this enrichment during the 2020-21 school year; as local students deal with virtual and hybrid learning environments, we will provide math support for pre-algebra students and for algebra level students as well. Funding support is needed to provide the technology, technology tools and staffing.
