In Yaw Owusukrom, school is not just a place to learn; it is often the safest space children have. Yet today, that space is failing them.
On most mornings, pupils arrive early, sweeping dusty floors and arranging the few usable desks they have. When the rains come, learning often comes to a halt. Water seeps through weak roofing, winds push dust through cracked walls, and children huddle together to protect books from getting soaked. Some students miss class entirely on rainy days because the structures feel unsafe. Teachers do their best, but it is challenging to deliver quality lessons when classrooms are overcrowded, poorly ventilated, and in a state of deterioration.
This is why Bridgeway Foundation is soliciting support to rebuild the Yaw Owusukrom School.
What we are rebuilding and why it matters
Our goal is to restore dignity and safety to learning by rebuilding a durable, well-ventilated classroom facility that can withstand the rainy season, reduce overcrowding, and provide teachers and pupils with a stable environment in which to teach and learn.
A rebuilt school will deliver immediate, practical impact:
- Safer classrooms that reduce the risk of injury from collapsing or failing structures
- Higher attendance because pupils can learn comfortably in both dry and rainy seasons
- Better learning outcomes as teachers can plan consistent lessons without frequent disruptions
- Improved retention for pupils and teachers as conditions become more supportive and professional
How your donation will be used
Every contribution helps transform a challenging learning environment into a safe and functional school. Funds raised will go directly toward high-impact construction and learning essentials, such as:
- Demolition/clearing and site preparation (as needed)
- Foundation work and blockwork
- Roofing, doors, windows, and security improvements
- Plastering, flooring, and painting for a clean learning environment
- Basic classroom furniture (desks, tables, chairs) and teacher workspace essentials
- Project supervision, community engagement, and accountability updates
Where possible, we will also support complementary needs that make the facility truly usable, such as access to water and hygiene support, because a safe school should also be a healthy school.
Community ownership and accountability
This is not a “drop and go” project. The Bridgeway Foundation collaborates with community leaders, parents, and local education stakeholders to ensure the school's protection and maintenance. The community’s involvement strengthens sustainability and ensures the project reflects local priorities and has local ownership.
A simple truth: children cannot learn in buildings that are falling apart
When a child sits in a broken classroom, the message they receive is painful: “This is what the world thinks you deserve.” We reject that message.
A rebuilt Yaw Owusukrom School tells every pupil:
- You matter.
- Your education matters.
- Your community believes in your future.
How you can help today
- Donate any amount; every dollar buys cement, supports labor, or puts a desk under a child.
- Share this fundraiser with friends, family, coworkers, and community groups.
- Give monthly if you can. Steady support enables us to plan and build more efficiently.
Together, we can rebuild a school that is safe, inspiring, and worthy of the children of Yaw Owusukrom.
