Give Miami Day: Supporting the Inspired Theater Project at Area Stage
There’s something incredibly special that happens when a child finally finds their place—somewhere they feel welcomed, understood, and free to be exactly who they are. For my son Maddox, the Inclusive Theater Project at Area Stage has become that place. A place where his love for acting, directing, and all things creative isn’t just encouraged… it’s embraced.
At 14, Maddox is a neurodiverse teen who sees the world through a beautifully unique lens. For years, we searched for a community where that uniqueness wasn’t just “accommodated,” but celebrated. And when he joined this program, it was as if a door opened—not just to theater, but to belonging, confidence, and genuine connection.
The transformation has been incredible to watch. Maddox has grown not only as a performer, but as a young person who feels more secure in who he is. He’s gained friendships, guidance, and a safe, supportive environment where he can explore his creativity without limits. The care, professionalism, and heart that the Inclusive Theater Project pours into its students is truly unmatched.
For many neurodiverse kids, programs like this aren’t just enrichment—they are lifelines. They provide the acceptance and opportunities that are often so hard to find elsewhere.
But right now, this program needs our support more than ever.
Ongoing county and statewide budget cuts are putting tremendous pressure on arts and cultural organizations, and the very spaces that uplift and empower neurodiverse youth are becoming increasingly vulnerable. Losing this program would mean losing a deeply meaningful community for countless families like mine.
So today, I’m asking—from one parent, one community member, one human to another—to help us protect this incredible program.
Every donation truly makes a difference.
If you would like to support Area Stage and the Inclusive Theater Project before the Early Giving period begins on November 15th, your contribution will directly support keeping this safe, inclusive, and inspiring space alive.
This isn’t just about funding the arts.
It’s about embracing inclusion .
It’s about protecting support systems that change lives.
It’s about making sure neurodiverse kids always have a place where they can shine.
With heartfelt appreciation,
