Why I'm raising money
As a former elementary teacher who now works in international education, access to school has always felt deeply important to me. For my birthday this June, I'm partnering with Engage Globally to sponsor the education of 5 students for the upcoming school year. Instead of birthday gifts, I would like to invite you to join me in reaching this goal!
I've chosen Engage Globally because their model of community-led development means donations create impact that truly lasts. Every child that enrolls in school is part of a larger ecosystem, one where education lifts not just the student, but the families and communities around them.
About Engage Globally
Engage Globally partners with nine rural villages in Ghana's Northern Region, where most families live on less than $2 a day. Their local partner team, Community Empowerment Resources (CER), is staffed almost entirely by people from the communities they serve, and their work spans education, vocational training, women's agriculture, and health — all connected so that supporting one strengthens the others.
The impact of your donation
Every $360 sponsors the education of one child for a full school year. That’s just $30/month! My goal of $1,800 will cover the educational experience of five kids. Here's what that includes:
A nutritious lunch every school day
A school uniform sewn by vocational training students
All learning supplies and textbooks
Local teachers, most of whom are graduates of Engage's programs
Environmental education through school gardens and tree planting
Rainwater catchment systems and hand-washing stations to provide clean water.
Why this moment matters
In 2025, Engage opened the Duahi Community Learning Center, the first school ever in that village, enrolling over 70 students in its first year. This fall, they're opening another first school in a village that has never had one. The five kids we sponsor could be among the very first in their community to ever walk into a classroom.
