Be a Horse Hero: Grandma, Honey, and Pony
$75 Raised
Horse Rescue Idaho dba Idaho Horse Rescue became a recognized 501(c)(3) NPO in 2010. Since then IHR has provided rescue and refuge to over 75 horses in Idaho.
IHR is one of the only horse rescue organizations in Southwest Idaho as Idaho Humane Society will no longer offer equine rescue.
As the equine rescue leader for our community, your contribution is needed now more than ever. Donate today and be a #HorseHero!
In January of 2017, we rescued JD & Ryat from Boulder Mountain near McCall, Idaho. Their herd had been abandoned over 2 years prior to survive on their own, fend off predators & feed themselves. We successfully collaborated with local law enforcement & search & rescue to locate them from where they were trapped on the mountain. Ryat's rescue required us to fly him out via helicopter. You can see more videos of our horses and rescues on youtube!
Left are Ryat& JD today - they are physically healthy but remain very cautious due to their years of both abuse & extended time surviving in the wild.
In February & March 2017, we were notified of the deplorable conditions of 51 horses - many yearlings -in Owyhee county. They were living in cramped pens, knee deep in feces, gnawing on fence posts to fend off hunger; missing patches of hair & horribly overgrown hooves. Sadly, 7 horses starved to death and 6 had to be euthanized. But, IHR was able to intervene and took in 27 of them.
Dottie's transformation below is a testament to the attentive care IHR provides.
Currently, there are 5 permanent residents at IHR due to age or permanent mental or physical injury : Jack, Ruby, JD & Ryat. Some horses suffer such horrific abuse that they are never able to physically or mentally recover. These 4 horses will live out their days under the care of IHR.
There are 18 horses looking for their forever homes at IHR. You can read more about them by clicking here.
Every donation makes a critical difference for these horses, no matter how big or how small. We need approximately $25,000 to complete our barn & arena facilities to provide a place for horses to be trained & prepared for adoption. We have many adoptable horses that still need training to get them ready for trail riding and other activities. Horses that are trained on a daily basis are less cautious & more comfortable with people & far more desirable to adoptive families.
You can also help IHR in a huge way by simply sharing this page and spreading the word of our mission. This Giving Tuesday, like/share this page (next to the heart in the upper right-hand corner), like and follow us on Facebook, and invite three of your friends to check us out!
