Located in the heart of downtown St. Augustine, our students don’t just learn, they lead. 

A St. Johns County Public Charter School, St. Augustine Public Montessori School is unique:

• 1 of only 16 public Montessori schools in the state of Florida serving elementary aged children. 

• 1 of only 500 public Montessori schools across the entire nation - 90% of Montessori schools are private!  

We're on a mission to make the Montessori method accessible to every child. By empowering students with self-directed learning in a structured environment; their natural curiosity is nurtured as they develop skills across reading, math, and critical thinking. 

In a 2023 review published by the Campbell Collaboration, researchers found that Montessori educated students were, on average, a full school year ahead by sixth grade. Montessori students also demonstrated stronger executive function, including self-control and working memory, and reported a more positive school experience overall compared to traditional students.

A Montessori classroom looks quite different from a traditional classroom; you’ll often see students working on the floor with various beads, blocks, and wooden pieces. From top-notch materials to specialized faculty training and the maintenance of our engaging learning spaces, public funding doesn't fully cover the costs associated with our high-caliber Montessori program.
