    A Place to Call Home: Accessible Housing for Adults with Disabilities

For too many adults with disabilities and seniors in Louisville, finding safe, affordable, and accessible housing is an overwhelming challenge. Families worry about what will happen when they can no longer provide care, and individuals often face long waiting lists or housing options that do not meet their needs.

SWC is launching a transformative housing initiative on its Southwest Louisville campus that will create 22 affordable, fully accessible apartments specifically designed for older adults and people with disabilities. The community will include five four-plex buildings and one duplex, featuring one-bedroom apartments built using Universal Design principles and exceeding ADA accessibility standards.

More than just housing, this project will provide residents with independence, dignity, safety, and connection. Located on SWC's campus, residents will have access to supportive services, recreational opportunities, transportation resources, and a caring community that helps them thrive.

Who We Are

Southwest Center is a private non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing community-based programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. SWC offers a variety of services, including day training, job training, residential services, transportation services, and community support services. 

SWC is certified by the Kentucky Division of Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities to offer technology assisted residential services. 

In 2024, SWC was a recipient of the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics in the large non-profit category.
