Grassroots Fundraiser for Phoenix Local Organizing Committee

Phoenix Local Organizing Committee's mission is to build community and leadership to promote systems where people of African descent are valued, seen and heard, established on the purpose and importance of unified communities.  We believe we can tackle the complex issues of poverty, poor education, lack of jobs, high crime and over-policing by creating an environment of peace showing the community how to solve their own problems through conflict resolution and personal responsibility and self-development, combined with resources that will allow the creation and guidance of business opportunities.

Phoenix Local Organizing Committee has received a Community Organizing Grant from the Peace Development Fund and all of the money raised from this fundraiser will be added to that grant to help support their organizing in 2020.  Please consider making a contribution today to support them and read more about their work below.

"The Phoenix LOC Community Safe Haven Program will consist of a door-to-door canvas campaign to recruit Black men to the forefront of violence prevention using a combination of methods of conflict resolution, community patrols, and training. This program will involve the setting up of a community hotline, classes to teach household management, parenting skills, nutrition, and establishing Black women’s support groups specifically targeted at reducing the high rate of infant mortality among Black families in South Phoenix. We will also hold town hall meetings that focus on engaging the community based on our surveys with political leaders to make them aware of community needs."

Phoenix Local Organizing Committee COVID-19 Response:

"In response to Covi-19 Phoenix Local Organizing Committee is focused on two major areas 1) Helping our small Black-Owned businesses to navigate through the funding resources available and 2) We have created an emergency relief fund to help struggling families to meet any shortfall they may have as a result of the Covid-19 shut down. We have adapted our work by shifting our programs online, starting with launching a podcast to continue to educate and engage our community on our current programs in health, arts, economic development and homeschooling."
