Grassroots Fundraiser for Parents Organizing for Welfare and Economic Rights (POWER).

POWER is an organization of low-income parents and allies in Olympia, Washington advocating for a strong social safety net while working toward a world where children and caregiving are truly valued, and the devastation of poverty has been eradicated. POWER has 1,436 members, over 80% of our members are low-income, over 90%  are women.

POWER has received a Community Organizing Grant from the Peace Development Fund and all of the money raised from this fundraiser will be added to that grant to help support their organizing in 2020.  Please make a contribution today to support POWER and read more about how they plan to use these funds below:

"POWER requests operational support to develop leadership among low-income parents so we can fight for human rights crucial to our survival. Our leaders not only register members in their community to vote, but continue to educate our communities through workshops, popular education gatherings, and our informative newsletter so we can become more informed voters.

We are requesting support to do outreach to low-income parents at food banks, welfare offices, and other places they gather, to provide information about their rights as well as offer leadership opportunities so they can begin to reframe the definition of who is poor and why.

We will build the knowledge base, confidence, and skill level of our members and provide emerging community leaders with the tools they need to organize other parents to share relevant information about poverty and their lives with their city, state, and national elected officials."

POWER's COVID-19 Response:

"POWER is proactively responding and adapting to COVID-19 by sending out timely information in our e-newsletter to our members, and by using our Facebook page to keep the public updated on programs and events that benefit low-income people and address economic relief. In the near future, we are planning to hire a part-time employee who will provide advocacy and promote the small, local businesses of Alchemilla Feminist Economic Collaborative members online. Online sales and accessibility are necessary in the age of COVID-19, and have always been a useful resource for disabled and homebound people, stay-at-home parents, caregivers, artists and entrepreneurs.
