Black Life Response

Mission

Black Life Response is a creative and cultural organizing collective that aims to honor Black Life through the creation of programming that centers healing, investment initiatives, and calls to transformation. We do this through carving out spaces designed to center building the power of and encouraging the healing of Black folks, particularly, Black Trans and Gender Non-conforming folks.

Black Life Response has received a Community Organizing Grant from the Peace Development Fund and all of the money raised from this fundraiser will be added to that grant to help support their organizing in 2022.

Your support will help to fund two of our main initiatives. Our first initiative aims to increase the utilization of healing and wellness in organizing and community-building practice. We do this by creating public spaces for conversations centering healing and for the practice of it. This includes public altar spaces, hosting webinars and talks, and showing up in larger spaces as healing justice leads.

Our second initiative, The Black Life Response Residency is twofold. It first seeks to directly address the lack of development opportunities for Black TGNC artists and organizers by creating a space where they can be part of communal development. Secondly, it honors the need for us to remain whole while doing this work, and carves out a space solely for re-invigoration, dreaming, and fortifying Black TGNC leaders in the field to do their work

Can you share a story of one of the leaders in your organization and how they’ve made a difference in their community?

"The participants of our restorative and capacity building residencies have gone on to lead campaigns in the legislative and electoral spaces, run public-facing healing justice campaigns, oral history projects, publish books supporting reproductive justice campaigns, and are currently supporting radical arts natives- all of these amplifying the capacity of Trans and Queer folks to do their work in the Southern communities they serve."

Black Life Response is a participant in Grassroots Funding Week, a week-long crowdfunding campaign that supports several social justice organizations from across the country.
